We all secretly want to be a Topshop Girl!

Yes to the denim waistcoats, shorts and skirts, lace layers, cropped tops and jackets, paisley prints. No to the body hugging maxi dresses, strange graphic leggings and socks with sandals (didn't our Grandad's teach us socks with sandals are not a good look?!)
and a defiant thumbs up to metallic gold nail varnish!
Bring on Summer!

Curiouser and Curiouser

Curiouser and curiouser!” Cried Alice (she was so much surprised, that for the moment she quite forgot how to speak good English)

Well last week I finally went to see Alice in Wonderland directed by a certain Mr Tim Burton.

After visiting the shop/exhibition of Alice at Selfridges and hearing a lot of news about this film I just had to go and see it. Here's a few photographs from Selfridges shop windows! I loved the whole mix and match of items including two of the outfits from the actual film. You have to love Selfridges marketing skills, I can afford £40 on an Alice in wonderland T-shit...can't I?

So on to the actual film.
Well apart from Alice not sure whether she was the right Alice and Johnny Depp (the Mad Hatter) not sure if he was Irish,Scottish or American. I don't now if this was intentional but we shall pretend not to notice.
The film was ok...I felt it was a bit rushed and when I look back to it I remember a blur of colours so not the most rememorable story but watchable.
Anyway I was hardly watching the film as I was drooling over the constant change of costume. Colleen Atwood has really pulled out all the stops in creating different outfits for each character and a continual change of clothing for Alice. One thing that the Disney Animated 1951 failed to notice was that if Alice shrank then surely her clothes would become too big for her? This film has really played on the idea of scale with a memorable scene where the Queen of Hearts meets the large Alice who is hiding behind a bush. '....Clothe this enormous girl!'
I would wait till this film is out on DVD which apparently will be very soon by Tim Burton's requests to see it.

Clever Clogs!

Peep Toe Yellow Clog (available in 4 colours) Swedish Hasbeens, Chocolate Studded Clog Topshop, Black Leather Clog Kurt Geiger, Tan Sandal Clog Topshop, Tan Strap Clog Miss Selfridge, Beige Studded Clog Faith

So still not convinced this is the Summer must have? Well here's some proof that the Clog (yes those shoes often associated with peasant girls or the souvenirs you often find in Holland) are clopping their way on to the high street.
Here's my top six - leather, studded and heeled take your pick from the strappy to the slip-on but please, please do not think this is an excuse for Crocs! Leave those to the gardeners!

Alexander McQueen

The fashion world is in mourning today after news spread yesterday that the talented designer Alexander McQueen was found dead in his London flat. For me his work was highly inspirational and all I can say is what a great loss and send respect to his family and friends. I hope he has found some kind of peace and he will defiantly be remembered by all.

Hearts for Valentines

Heart Embroidered Cardigan Miss Selfridge, Heart Shape Glasses Asos, Heart Knickers Topshop, Heart Print Cut-out Dress New Look, Heart Print Tights Dorothy Perkins, Heart Earrings Accessorize, Heart Shoes Vivienne Westwood.

I'm not a big fan on Valentines day as I see it as a commercial way to make money. It makes single people unhappy and forces couples to spend ridiculous amounts of money on each other. I think if you love someone it should be on a day special to you both, not a day when everyone else is doing it! Where's the individuality to that relationship? Anyway despite this I do love all the heart prints and shapes that come out this time of year, so if you don't celebrate it but want something cute...here are my top of the hearts for Valentines.

Swarovski Crystal - House of Cats

I came across this animation for Swarovski Crystal recently and thought it had to be shared. I love the quirky animation where the cats really do look crystal-like! I actually want one because of the video...now that's good advertising skills! However priced at $56 - $325 I don't really think its in my budget, being a poor student and all. Anyway, I hope you share the enthusiasm I did for them. And if you want to buy me one you can buy me one online here...I'll have Dianne please.

Developing Practice Project

So I've been pretty quiet on here recently. Thats because I have been working so hard on my last project. The project was about realising what we enjoy doing, developing skills and evaluating our own philosophy and what makes our work our own. My project was Entomology and Ornithology - A Insect and Bird study. The reason I studied them however, is not because I like them but the opposite...they both seem quite scary to me! I felt it would be interesting to study something that I have not had a lot of interest in before and have usually avoided.
For this project I decided to do a blog and a sketchbook as well as a final photoshoot and film promo, a lot of work but I'm pleased I pushed myself as I know I put my all into the development and final outcome.
The 13 photographs above are my final edited photos showing 7 pictures of the Bird styling and 6 pictures of the Insect styling.
Below is my film promo. If you want to have a look at my blog for this project go to this link - Entomology and Ornithology.
